A low glycemic index is another benefit of chocolate. It’s glycemic index is similar to oatmeal. Therefore chocolate will not send your blood sugar spiking. If, of course, you have a dark chocolate that does not have a lot of sugar added. It’s the sugar that can cause your glycemic index to go too high, too fast.
One study at the University of California found that dark chocolate actually was helpful in preventing platelets from becoming sticky. Sticky platelets can increase the risk of dangerous blood clots.
